This month I made the Style Arc Petra Coat. This is a lovely warm coat made up in 100% boiled wool. Perfect for the chilly months ahead. It is an oversized coat so plenty of room for lots of layers of clothing underneath too!
I topstitched the seams both sides of the seam giving a neat finish, as boiled wool does not fray and so does not need to be bound or overlocked.
Style Arc patterns have limited instructions and details regarding the pattern construction, but this pattern does go together well. the collar is sewn in aligning the notches and markings. I the topstitched the neckline to help the seams lie flat.
The facing is then attached forming the upper collar, the collar is secured by stitching in the ditch along the back neckline
The sleeve cuffs are sewn together at the short cuff edges and then folded lengthwise wrong sides together and then stitched to the sleeve hem. the sleeves were very long and I did need to shorten by approximately 5 inches.
A walking foot is a good idea when sewing with boiled wool if you have one. It is a lovely fabric to sew with and very toasty and warm, but not too heavy and bulky.
