June's Monthly Make's!

Updated: Oct 11, 2022

This month I have made the Pilar Jacket by Maison Fauve Patterns and the Firefly Tote Bag by Noodlehead Patterns.

The Pilar Jacket is one of our new designer patterns from Maison Fauve. We made it up in our Springfield Mid Blue Denim for the main fabric and AGF Joie De Claire Woodlands Fusions 100% Premium Cotton for the pocket lining and facings.

I didn't need to do any adjustments for this pattern and I decided to do the fold in the back for the additional design element. I also decided to use a contrast colour topstitching to match my contrast lining/ facings.

The sleeves of the jacket are fitted easily following the instructions - aligning the notches. I would always advise tacking an inserted sleeve prior to machine sewing to ensure you have the correct sleeve and alignment. Nothing worse than sewing a sleeve in with no puckers to realise you have the right on the left and vice versa!!!

For the hardware on the jacket is used the Prym Jeans Buttons which are easily applied using the Prym Vario Pliers. I also decided to apply some rivets at the pocket edges.

I love the finished jacket - with the additional design features of the folded back and the external darts at the shoulders. I will definitely be making another!!

The Firefly Tote Bag by Noodlehead I made up using our French Blue 12oz Organic Sanded Twill Fabric from Merchant and Mills as the main bag fabric and used a craft weight cotton fabric from my fabric stash for the contrast fabric and lining. We also now stock interfacing suitable for bag making, and all additional hardware. I used rivets for the bag handles and 6mm Woodsman Drawstring for the drawstring top.

The instructions are very clear and noodlehead also have a you-tube video series to walk you through visually if you should need it. There are many pieces to the bag in the cutting out phase with fabric and lining and the pattern provides labels you can cut out to help you keep track and identify your pieces - great idea!!

Our July's monthly make will be the Simone Set by Maven Patterns. This is a perfect summer pattern for a camisole and trouser set giving a faux Jumpsuit look which you can also mix and match with other items in your wardrobe. The Trousers can also easily be cropped into shorts. So a very versatile pattern!!

Happy Sewing :-)

From the NFSS team.
